Physical inactivity is one of the major factors influencing a variety of long-term health conditions. The growing challenge of chronic lifestyle related disease, mental health conditions and social isolation means it’s time to act, so we became an Active Practice! We passionately believe that our role is to empower and encourage our patients to make small but significant lifestyle changes to help them live happier and healthier lives, and key to this is that we take on the same approach ourselves.

To be accredited as an Active Practice we have to:
- Reduce sedentary behaviour in staff
- Reduce sedentary behaviour in patient
- Increase physical activity in staff
- Increase physical activity in patients
- Partner with a local physical activity provider
There are various ways we outwork the above in the work we do at Brookside. This includes:
- Provide patient workshops and group consultations which explain lifestyle factors contributing to our health outcomes
- Staff training on the 4 pillars of health: physical activity, nutrition, sleep and mental wellbeing
- Active champions – staff champions who are always happy to chat about ways to move more and model it themselves
- A programme of activities for staff to sign up to including exercise classes, netball, park runs, walks and much more
- We offer a cycle to work scheme as well as running challenges for the team to get involved in
- Partner with Places Leisure to offer specialist exercise classes for patients and a discounted joining fee for staff
- Regularly signpost to local services and groups
- We are a Park Run Practice
